The Symphony has announced the program for its 2009-2010 season, which you can see here. Highlighting the season is a visit from violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn. An internationally renowned performer, Pitcairn plays the instrument known to classical music insiders as the Mendelssohn Stradivarius but more popularly called “The Red Violin,” from the feature film of the same name. The Season begins October 3rd with a program of all American music and the annual Yuletide Pops concert will have an emphasis on young people. The Red Violin concert in March is expected to draw crowds from across the Midwest and the season ends in April with a program of all Russian music, including Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto, with soloist Matt Edwards from Missouri Western State University. Season and single performance tickets are now on sale right here on the website!

The Symphony is also excited to announce a new series for classical music aficionados. Beginning in the fall, a new series of chamber music concerts will allow audiences to hear the work of some of the orchestra’s finest players in a more intimate setting. The new concerts will focus on small groups playing familiar literature in new locations around Saint Joseph. Details of the series can be seen here. Season tickets may be purchased for the chamber music series alone or as part of a package with the major concerts.

About October's concert:
Made in America
We're beginning the season with music created here in America, starting with Gould's American Salute, which incorporates the familiar tune "When Johnny Comes Marching Home". Barber's popular Adagio for Strings can be found in the CD players and iPods of thousands of classical music fans and we can't wait to perform it for you live and in person at the Missouri Theater. We thought Copland's Lincoln Portrait would be particularly appropriate as we celebrate the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth this year. And the stirring New World Symphony will set the tone for our exciting season.
We're offering many new options for season tickets to fit your schedule and your budget, as well as single tickets for every performance. Click here to explore your options and call us at the Symphony office if you have questions. We're here to help!
