About Us

Frequent Questions

  1. I don’t know much about classical music. Will I be able to understand and appreciate what’s being played?

You don't need to have a degree in music or have been a classical concert goer to enjoy our performances. Just sit back and let the music wash over you in our beautiful venues. Classical music - especially live - has been shown to have stress-relieving benefits. And our conductor, Christopher Kelts, is great at hgelping the audience understand what they are gong to hear.

  2. What should I wear?

You will find all kinds of fashion at our concerts - from those wanting an excuse to get out the evening clothes to jeans, t-shirts, and yoga pants. Let the mood move you - we are just glad you are there to enjoy the music!

  3. Will I feel strange coming to a performance alone?

Not at all. On any given night, we have many people attending on their own. We often have a reception before the conert where you can connect with others with similar interests and make new friends! As symphony goers, you already have something in common!

  4. How will I know when to clap?

We're not stuffy about this. If you feel moved to clap after a mvoement of a piece, then do. Our musicians are playing their hearts out for you, and your applause means everything. When in doubt, watch the people around you and follow their lead.

  5. Is it difficult to buy tickets?Nope. It’s easy. Tickets are available online. Just click on the menu tab called “Concerts" and then "Purchase Tickets". You can also still order tickets the old-fashioned way by calling 816-233-7701 or stopping by our office at 120 South 8th Street in St. Joseph. We’re open from 10 to 5 pm Tuesday through Friday. And if you decide a the last minute to join us, The Missouri Theater Box Office opens one hour before showtime.

  6. Is it expensive to attend the Symphony?

We do all that we can to keep ticket prices affordable. Season ticket holders get the best deal on tickets. Special group rates and student discounts are also available. If you watch our social media channels, you will also see that we frequently offer special discounts. Please call the office if you have any questions or concerns 816-233-7701.
