Remembering Beethoven
We mark the 200th anniversary of the passing of a towering musical genius – Ludwig van Beethoven – with a concert that traces the bold evolution of his unmistakable voice. We begin with his vibrant Symphony No. 1 in C Major considered a bridge between the elegance of Haydn and Mozart and the more daring spirit that would define the Romantic era. The journey culminates with a masterpiece of the repertoire – his Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, “Emperor”, known for its power, lyricism and grandeur. For this performance we bring to the stage one of the most celebrated American concert pianists of his generation, Cliburn International Competition medalist Sean Chen, whose brilliance and artistry will bring this heroic concerto thrillingly to life. And be watching for next season's announcement where we will continue to remember Beethoven with an opening concert of one of his most monumental works.
